What Is Waklert?
Waklert is a prescription medication and a generic brand of Armodafinil, which is considered a nootropic compound due to its capacity to promote alertness and increase wakefulness, leading to better cognitive performance. In 2007, the FDA approved this compound for use in the treatment severe daytime sleepiness caused by various sleep disorders, such as narcolepsy and sleep apnea.
A Brief History
Armodafinil was developed by Cephalon Inc, the company that initially brought Modafinil to the US market, and it’s essentially a more targeted and pure form of Modafinil. It was developed in 2007, which was also the year when it was approved by the FDA.
Some say that Cephalon developed Armodafinil as an alternative to Modafinil because their patent was close to expiring and they wanted an alternative drug they could hold exclusivity over and maintain their profits. This is of little importance, though, since the drug does work and many people have found Armodafinil to be more stimulative and its effects appear to be longer-lasting.
While Cephalon markets Armodafinil under the brand name Nuvigil, they are no longer the only supplier of this compound on the market. Waklert is a generic brand that is manufactured in India by a huge pharmaceutical conglomerate: Sun Pharma.
How Does Waklert Work?
Armodafinil is a derivative of Modafinil, including the right enantiomer of the latter, which is the active element in this compound. For this reason, Armodafinil is considered to be more potent. The half-life of both drugs is approximately the same, but many feel Armodafinil has longer lasting effects because it takes longer to achieve the maximum concentration in the blood stream compared to Modafinil.
Considering its status as a Modafinil derivative, Armodafinil’s method of action, and implicitly Waklert’s, is the same as Modafinil, except at a greater level of potency. It should be noted that no one is really certain how it works and, at the moment, all we have are theories.
For example, some say that it increases the level of hypothalamic histamine as well as inhibiting certain aspects of the dopamine transporter thereby boosting synaptic concentrations of dopamine. Since dopamine is, essentially, a “pleasure” hormone, it is the reason Waklert is believed to improve one’s mood, besides its effect on cognitive performance.
Generally speaking, a single dose of this drug taken daily is more than sufficient due to its lengthy half-life. The recommended dose is 150 mg, but it depends largely on why you are taking it. You should never change the dosage or frequency of administration of this drug without speaking to your doctor first.
The Benefits of Waklert
First and foremost, Waklert is used as a wakeful-agent for people who have trouble staying awake during the day due to narcolepsy, sleep apnea or shift work disorder. However, it is also used to help patients suffering from excessive fatigue caused by other medical conditions.
So, in essence, this drug has the capacity to keep you alert, awake and fully operational even if you are sleep deprived or suffer from any other sleep problems. The effect is intense but “smooth” in the sense that you don’t experience the jitteriness and other unpleasant symptoms caused by traditional stimulants such as amphetamines or even coffee.
It also seems to improve one’s ability to focus and concentrate, while some claim to have even experienced an increase in their ability to reason, to identify patterns, and to establish mental connections. They also claim to be more eloquent and creative after taking Waklert.
Many people have also found they are better able to “get into the zone” due to better mental fluidity. Other benefits seem to include better moods and sensations of being more extroverted, which could make Waklert useful in treating symptoms of social anxiety.
It should be noted that some of these effects are subjective and derived from anecdotal evidence.
Medically speaking, research is being conducted into this drug’s ability to help in the treatment of cerebral palsy by improving coordination and gait, as well as in treating ADHD.
Waklert vs Other Brands
The main difference between Waklert and other brands of Armodafinil lies in the fillers used when manufacturing the tablets. These fillers are present in any tablet but the quantity and type used can vary, which can cause different reactions in different people despite the active compound being identical.
For example, some find this drug to be more effective and stronger than even Nuvigil.
Some find Waklert to be stronger and provide a smoother effect than some generic brands of Modafinil. These differences tend to be subjective and could be caused by dosage, frequency and time of day taken.
Side Effects of Waklert
Waklert is considered quite safe but it does have some mild side effects, such as dizziness, fatigue, headaches, nausea and nervousness. More serious side effects are also possible though very rare, such as swelling of the lips, face or tongue, hives, and breathing problems. If you experience any serious side effects, you should stop taking the drug immediately and consult a healthcare professional.
Bottom Line
Waklert is a generic version of Armodafinil but has proven to be just as effective as its more expensive counterparts. It does have powerful cognitive performance boosting properties, but should never be taken unless prescribed by a physician and by following directions to the letter.
